The latest information published on the FSA website is as below.   Manton does not currently supply these companies and I can confirm that this issue does not affect Manton or any of our customers in any way.   Through our own checks we are fully confident in all our suppliers and have no concerns of possible contamination in our plant or products.   The FSA official information points to a 14 tonne consignment which is now clearly identified and contained and affects only those named below.  We will continue to update news on our website www.manton.eu.com/index.php/news/ as and when it comes to us.

Update on dioxin contamination of pasteurised liquid eggs

Friday 7 January 2011

The Food Standards Agency is providing further information about the distribution of pasteurised liquid whole egg to the UK from the Netherlands that may have been made with eggs contaminated with dioxins.

The pasteurised liquid whole egg (that is including the white and yolk) was produced using eggs from Germany that could contain levels of dioxins that are above the legal limits. These eggs were subsequently mixed with non-contaminated eggs to produce pasteurised liquid egg, an ingredient used widely in the manufacturer of cakes.

This pasteurised liquid egg has been supplied to two manufacturers in the UK. These are:

Kensey Foods, Cornwall – a division of Samworth Brothers

Memory Lane Cakes Ltd, Cardiff – a division of Finsbury Food Group

These manufacturers used the pasteurised liquid egg to produce a range of short shelf life cakes and quiches, which were supplied to the major UK supermarkets.

There is no food safety risk from eating these products. The majority of products will have been sold and most have passed their ‘use by’ or ‘best before’ dates.

Supermarkets are removing the small amount of products that are still in date.

Dioxin contamination in pig and poultry feed in Germany and egg products processed in Netherlands

This is to confirm and to reassure you that the current issue of dioxin in German animal feeds and potential to contaminate eggs is not connected to any Manton (Assured Egg Products) egg product (liquid, powdered or cooked and peeled) supply.

From the information published by the Food Standards Agency website yesterday 5 January 2011 we understood no contaminated products have entered the UK.  We have subsequently been advised that the Food and Drink Federation network today has information that some of this egg may in fact have come to the UK in liquid form.

I can reaffirm that Manton’s position has not changed and I would reiterate that Manton egg products are not known to have any links whatsoever to this issue. If contaminated product has entered the UK it has not come to or been distributed by Manton.

Dioxin contamination in pig and poultry feed in Germany

The current issue of dioxin in German animal feeds is not connected to any Manton egg supply.

From the latest information now published on the Food Standards Agency website and quoted below we understand no contaminated products have entered the UK.

“The Food Standards Agency has been alerted that pig and poultry feed in Germany has been found to contain dioxins above the European legal limits. Based on the available information none of the potentially contaminated animal feed, or food from the animals that may have eaten the feed, has entered the UK.”
